First Reconciliation

First Reconciliation

As we become more aware of God’s abundant love for us, we realize that we have not loved God back nearly as much as He has loved us. The awareness of our sinfulness leads us to return back to hear of God’s merciful love.

In the Sacrament of Reconciliation (also known as Penance or Confession) we find God’s unconditional love and forgiveness; as a result we are called to love and forgive others.

Children must be prepared to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation prior to receiving First Communion. Both sacraments are generally received in grade two or above.

Requirements:

* Children must be attending the Parish Faith Formation Program or the Basilica School of St. Paul.

* The readiness required for the Sacrament of Penance consists in the capacity to discern between right and wrong, together with an understanding, appropriate to the child’s age, of what sin is. Understanding sin and the difference between serious and less serious sin are crucial concepts for the reception of the sacrament.

* Attendance at Meetings

* At least one parent or adult guardian is required to attend the sessions with their child. Each child is required to complete the Sacramental Preparation materials with their parents.

* Attend Mass regularly.
