A lector is a minister who proclaims the Word of God from the lectionary at Mass. This ministry is open to all those who are fully initiated into the Catholic Church (Baptized, Confirmed, and received their First Holy Communion) and if married, have a valid Marriage in the Catholic Church.

This ministry requires that a person has a love for the Holy Scriptures, and a gift for the oral interpretation of the Word of God. To proclaim the Word of God, one must prayerfully reflect upon the Holy Scriptures and then rehearse the assigned reading. Workbooks are provided to readers to assist them in their preparation. Workshops are periodically presented by the parish and the Diocese of Orlando for continued training and growth of the reader.
