Halifax Urban Ministries

Halifax Urban Ministries (HUM) was founded in 1980 by the Halifax Area Ministerial Association representing the faith community of the greater Halifax Area. From its beginning it has served as a direct extension of local faith communities by developing community outreach programs. Since 1990 HUM has taken a leadership role in developing services for and advocating for the homeless and poor of our community. Their prime mission is to prevent homelessness through the distribution of food and emergency financial support.

The Basilica of St. Paul assists Halifax Urban Ministries through a monthly collection envelope marked “HUM/St. Martin de Porres.” These funds are sent directly to the HUM office to support the many services provided for the needy in Daytona Beach. The Basilica has a representative on the HUM board of directors.

The Basilica of St. Paul also hosts the HUM Bridge of Hope Mobile Food Pantry that brings meals for area homeless on Monday -Saturday at 11:45am-12:15pm in the church’s north parking lot.
